Drypoint etching tools

Drypoint etching tools are steel needles used to etch zinc plates. Their shapes and the special angles of the sharp edges - initially inspired by the most ancient techniques and by classic tradition – make these tools excellent for drypoint and etching techniques.  Thanks to the accurate detailing they can perform, these tools are widely used for embossed engraving, for pottery and for sculpting.  By scratching the metal, the tip of the tool creates a groove that raises some metal filaments which trap the ink, creating a typically soft mark.
